Drink Approximation

WINE

A typical serving of wine is 5 ounces. By this measure you will get:

DINNER

Dinner is usually a bigger meal than lunch and takes longer to consume. With this in mind you may require 1/2 a bottle per person, which will give three glasses each.

WINE AND CHEESE PARTY

Most guests can drink three glasses of vino in a two hour period, so you will need 1/2 a bottle per person, or more if it is an extended party. You'll also require at least a quarter pound of cheese per person. This amount will vary depending on what else you have on hand (fruit/crackers...). Pro Tip: Label the different cheeses so your guests know exactly what they are trying.

Beer

Plan on two bottles or cans per person for the first hour. For every subsequent party one bottle or serving of beer should be sufficient.

If you are unaware of how many people drink beer or if your party theme requests it consider purchasing a keg. You'll save some money and offer something a little different. Be sure to have plenty of cups or glassware.

Champagne or Sparkling Wine

As a general rule one 750 ml bottle will fill 6 flutes. However the amount of bubbly you'll need will depend on the event type. If you plan on simply toasting a special event one glass per person should be enough. For a pre-meal cocktail 1 and a half drinks should be allotted. For parties where the bubbly is free flowing allow for three glasses per person per two hours.

SPIRITS

A 750 mL (26 oz.) bottle yields approximately 17 standard drinks. You will need three similarly sized bottles of mix for cocktails. For a 2 hour party you should allow three drinks per person. And always remember to provide non-alcoholic drinks and plenty of ice.

The table below is only an estimate as amounts vary on the party type and theme:

Party Budget Approximations

There are number of factors to consider when hosting a party. All of these may raise the cost of your event but you don't have to break the bank to have a good time. Consider the following occasions.

Cocktail Party

For a typical cocktail party with an assumed 20 guests, lasting 4 hours you may budget:

Bridal Shower

This Bridal Shower assumes a mid day or early evening event for 20 guests and lasting 4 hours. You may wish to set aside the following:
